Ambassador – Daniela

My name is Daniela Schlegel, I am 28 y.o. and I love to spend my time in nature.

I enjoy walking through forests, sitting on beaches, diving underwater and hiking high up in the mountains, just everything which connects me with our planet. My partner and I just started our project, called Plan(et)a, with which we want to encourage people to help preserving our environment. We want to promote everyone who dedicates time and effort to save, protect, educate, clean, or any other action that helps to ensure the longevity of our environment.

What inspires you to travel and explore the world?

Traveling for me means to explore the beauty of mother nature, to find hidden/untouched places and to get an insight into other cultures and religions.

What do you always take with you on your travels to limit your impact on the environment?

While traveling I try to keep my impact on the environment as small as possible. We all know that this is not always easy. But I never go on a trip without cloth bags, a reusable water bottle and a bamboo toothbrush to keep my use of plastic as low as possible.

Which environmentally friendly projects have you encountered that have particularly inspired you?

During my last trip, I met a few people who inspired me with their projects. The latest one is definitely the project of volunteers in Amed, Bali who developed a system of waste collection for the population there, spending hours and hours collecting trash and transporting it to a sorting center where a part of it is recycled to produce bags and accessories.

Which place on the planet that you visited has struck you the most and why?

I cannot really say which place I liked the most. I traveled to Canada with my parents about 13 years ago and I still have the pictures of the beautiful forests, lakes and animals we visited in my mind and it would be an absolute dream to go there again. But I also loved Ireland with its green fields and hills, the tons of sheep and the cheerful Irish music. I remember both places as very clean and people were respectful towards nature which is something I find very important.

Dream destinations:

I have so many destinations on my bucket list, I do not even know if I will manage to tick them all off the list in only one life. Just to mention a few:

  • Nepal
  • Bhutan
  • Iceland
  • New Zealand
  • Galapagos
